Hiliary 2020
Seeing some of the impossible stuff he did with his guitar I say
Frank Zappa.
His underling Steve Vai was pretty good too.
I also think Billy Corgan is a great player.
But Zappa was the most talented I believe

I don't really choose guitarists by their technical abilities, but more for their interesting use of the guitar and songwriting.

Kurt Ballou (Converge)
Adrian Belew (King Crimson, Talking Heads, Zappa)
Frank Zappa
Duane Denison (The Jesus Lizard)
Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine)

Patrick_S

persona non grata
Neil Young
J Mascis

Showoff guitarists like Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai makes me wanna puncture my eardrums with sharp objects.

Gah! what as I thinking? I left off a few big ones.

Robert Fripp (King Crimson)
Neil Young

This guy knows whats up. I've never heard a Vai, Malmseet, Satch song that wasn't just another vehicle for their meedly-meedly licks and all out masturbation (SHREDDING THE GNAR! DIIIIIVE BOOOOMB weedlydeedlymedlemeedly). No offense to anyone who likes those bands, but

EDIT: I almost forgot someone who has influenced me a lot: GREG GINN
Edit 2, electric boogaloo: Damn it! I didn't mean to make a new post.

Because it is a sausage fest in here, and because I think she's about the best guitarist (as far as technical talent at least, though interpretively I like her a lot too) you should all check out Kaki King.

I like that

My personal favourite: Stevie Ray Vaughan

Steve Vai has written some really good songs. Unlike his 80's stuff, his current playing has a lot more soul in it. He puts a lot of emotion into his stuff, unlike Malmsteen who is just showing off his technical prowess.

Christ! How could I forget about Eddie Van Halen?! I am such a fraud. :dunno:

She sounds like Andy Mckee or Erik Mongraine but without the practice.
